A new year, a new routine?

A new year is upon us and with it it the good news of endless possibility ... and new possiblities speak of change.

The Greek philosopher Heraclitus wrote: "The only constant in life is change".

If we hold this to be true, then we need a tool to ground us, a tool that allows us to be the witness of this constant change without loosing ourselves in the ups and downs of life. Yoga and its 5000 year old sister-science of Ayurveda offer such tools. One such tool, of course, is the daily practice of asana (postures), pranayama (breath work) and meditation, which you are already engaged in.

Another tool that Ayurveda offers is Daily Routine (dinacharya). Ayurveda encourages us to have a morning and an evening routine consisting of different practices tailored to your constitution and the current season we are in. It is like a twice daily check-in, a mindfulness tool that prepares body, mind and spirit for the rigors of the day and in the evening allows you to check back in and prepare for sleep. It has the power to keep us grounded. A routine reduces stress. A routine gives us a platform from which to watch the changes in our lives without emotional/mental attachment, so we can acknowledge the current situation and choose our response from a place of peace and calm.

To learn more about a daily routine as understood by Ayurveda, come join me in my Ayurvedic Yoga classes, offered every Friday morning (9:15 - 10:30 am) at Triangle Yoga.

Or better yet, join me for my second Ayurveda & Yoga workshop, January 19th from 3-5 pm. Come and I'll share what these daily routines look like. Pre- registration is required, as space is limited. You can register by calling Triangle Yoga or by going on their website www.triangleyoga.com and registering.

I look forward to seeing you tonight at my Restorative Yoga class (every Thursday) at Triangle Yoga from 6 -7 pm for a delicious deep relaxation practice or at any point in this new year, where we can learn together to live at our center, where mind, body and spirit unite!

Blessings on your new year,

Nasim
